NOTHING CHRONIC (EXCEPT LOVE)
International Premier: Valentine’s Day 2019 as part of Poetry d’Amour
Poetry performance by Maya Wuytack

Nothing Chronic (except Love) is a fascinating ritual about longing and the intimacy with what is missing. The distance between the dream and the dreaming body opens a world, unlimited as imagination itself. This international premier coincides with the celebratory book release of Nothing Chronic (except Love) with Maya offering signing and poetry tattoos at the after-party.

…a memory of what never happened, present deep inside her, now too, she felt like the inheritor of uninhabited lives, like a sole remaining blood relative, like the unscathed breathing on the warm, dark entrails of the world…’

Poet director Maya Wuytack collaborates with sound artist-musician Hans Beckers creating a subtle and strong poetry performance. With simplicity and surrender, the words, the body, music and visuals merge in one poetic multiversum.

A strong tribute to love. Vulnerable and daring.

A performance I fell in love with.
___________________________ Leo Trienpont, Special Art Festival

Her poetry surprises, unnerves and nourishes us.
______ Frans Boenders (Cultural Philosopher, former presenter at Radio Klara).

It isn’t every day that we’re confronted with a remarkable talent. During a poetry manifestation I was bowled over by Maya Wuytack’s performance. Impressive!

Maya Wuytack (1987) is a poet and theatre maker who graduated as Master in Dramatic Arts from Herman Teirlinck Institute and the Theatre Conservatory KASK. She writes, performs and directs theatre and poetry productions with crossovers to dance, music and film. She has won several first prizes such as SOET, Jeugd & Poëzie, Zesde Druk, Poemtata competition. The Académie Européenne des Arts awarded her the Golden Medal for Literature. She was also winner Txt-onstage at Kunstbende.

Reckless and tender, extravagant and quirky, Maya Wuytack’s debut  collection confronts the absurdity and glory of existence. These are poems of yearning and desire, mutiny and mysticism. In images of startling technicolour, Wuytack draws us into her sensuous universe.

Poetry that kisses you full on the mouth and kicks your ass in accordance. Poetry to whisper in your lover’s ear at night…

Maya’s Ontbreekbaarheid / Nothing Chronic (except Love) will be her one and only performance on 14 February 2019. A 40 min dance/poetry piece that will change and challenge everything you know about poetry performance. It’s mesmerizingly beautiful and clever.

Maya’s poetry fearlessly scrutinizes the uncharted spaces between the push and pull of our visceral will to love.  Małgorzata Myk (Professor of American Literature, University of Lodz)

and about her performance:

It isn’t every day that we’re confronted with a remarkable talent.
