“Spells are poems; poetry is spelling. Spell-poems are vehicles of change that take us beyond the borders of the rational into a place where the right words can influence the universe.” Shin & Tamás, Spells: 21st Century Occult Poetry

In this workshop, participants will explore the potent and textured poetry created by the LGBTIQA+ community and instances where it intersects with concepts of magic and invocation. Works from the likes of Ocean Vuong, Yrsa Daley-Ward, Francesca Lisette and others will be examined in the context of how they give voice and power to the marginalised.

Then, through individual writing exercises, participants will explore the fluidity of personal identity in a binary world and how poetry can empower the intention of the individual. At its core, this workshop aims to show how poetry can garner strength when used to promote compassionate narratives that openly embrace the mysticism inherent in each of us.

Open to participants of all writing abilities.

It is essential that you book your place.
