DESCRIPTION:Featuring Ben Mason and open mic \nBen’s short fiction has been performed\, awarded\, and published\, including Westerly and Overland (both upcoming).  Home Invasion — his collection of short fiction — was long-listed for the 2019 Fogarty Award.  For spoken word he finished 3rd in the 2019 WA leg of the Australian Poetry Slam State Final\, won the Margaret River Writers Festival Slam\, and has performed in Fringe and Festival shows through Western Australia.  In 2020 he was a writer-in-residence at Mattie Furphy House for the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA\, and in 2021 he won an Emerging Writers Award with Westerly/UWA. \nHe is currently working on a novel. \nPlease join us to celebrate poetry this Saturday afternoon 2pm – 4pm

DESCRIPTION:Join PEN Perth at the Centre for Stories for a night of poetry readings to commemorate the International Human Rights Day. Our PEN members and friends will read a selection of the work of writers who have been detained. These readings are to acknowledge the continued restraints on freedom of expression across the world\, and the plight of writers and activists whose language lends light to this suppression. \nWe will feature the work of writers from Afghanistan\, China\, India\, Myanmar\, and Vietnam\, places in the world where creative expression is increasingly shackled. \nThe night will begin with a series of readings\, both in English and in native languages. Afterwards\, join PEN Perth for some light beverages to celebrate the end of 2021.
